Campground Review: Morefield Campground,Mesa Verde National Park, CO

Why we chose here?  From Moab we were traveling in the general direction of Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta. Since Mesa Verde had been recommended to us, we thought it was worth a couple of nights there.  Although a little expensive for a National Park ground, we valued the convenience enough to pay to be inside the park.

Location: Inside the park itself, although it is still a fair drive to see all the sights. At least you are ahead of the day visitors. There are some nice hikes from the campground especially a sunset one called Knife Edge. We saw lots of beautiful deer in the park, and cute bunnies too.

Sites: 267 sites, some with electric and water hook ups. The sites are varied in how spacious and level they are. The place was quiet when we were there so we had no problems finding a quiet spacious spot.

Facilities: Store, laundry, showers, cafe, Wifi (that actually was good!). Dump station on site.

Groceries: Nothing very close to here, better stock up before you get here.

Reservations: Yes. But we didn't need them.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Good wifi in the park, marginal cell service.

Price Paid: $30. Plus National Park entrance (included with America The Beautiful Pass)

Date of visit: Sept 2014

Other:  This is a privately run park, hence the better than average facilities.  Also the WiFi worked really well.  Very rare in any kind of spot. Note that part of the park closes after Labor Day, but there is still plenty to see in the part that remains open. The campground is not open in the winter.

Would we come here again? It's unlikely we would visit the park again having seen the sights already. But if we did we would stay here again.
