Location: The campground is close to the more popular West Entrance to the park and on the shores of the beautiful Lake McDonald. You can walk to the visitor center to get the shuttle bus for the Going to the Sun Road. Apgar village has a few stores and is also within walking distance, West Glacier Village is a little further away just a short car ride just outside the park entrance .
Sites: This is the largest campground in the park with nearly 200 sites. All with no hook-ups. You would think it may be easy to score a spot. Think again - read our tips on getting a spot here. This is a heavily wooded campground. Solar energy is hard to come by even on a sunny day.
Facilities: Toilets. A dump station, water, trash and recycling (Aluminum and plastic #1 only)
Groceries: Best to bring it with you. Just small camping style stores anywhere close to here.
Reservations: No - this is all FCFS.
Cell Coverage / WiFi: Patchy in parts of the campground. The Visitor center a short walk or bike ride away has great free WiFi. Fast and reliable.

Would we come here again? Definitely a wonderful base camp to tour Glacier.
Other: This is also a good location to tour some of the quieter and less developed areas of the park. Bowman Lake on the North Fork is stunningly beautiful, but be prepared for a rocky drive on a narrow road to get up there. Lake McDonald is wonderful for kayaking too and is much more accessible.
