Campground Review: Grand Teton Boondocking, Moose, Wyoming

Campground Review: Grand Teton Boondocking, Moose, Wyoming

Why we chose here? We saw this spot on Campendium, and several friends had visited here, so we knew it was a sweet place to be. We wanted to be in a good location to visit the Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Wyoming.

Location: This is the most scenic place we have stayed in, the views are perfect. GTNP is very close, the entrance at Moran Junction is just 7 miles and Moose Junction is 14 miles. Jackson is 26 miles away. The access is not bad a mile or two up a bumpy, road.  Most medium rigs would have no trouble getting up.  We saw a big fifth wheel up there while we were there.

Sites: There are quite a lot of sites in this area, even if you can't get the killer view spot, there are some beautiful places further up the road that are in more of a meadow setting.

Facilities: None.

Groceries: Jackson has a good selection. Smiths and Jackson Whole Grocers (A Whole Foods-like store) were our favorites.

Reservations: No

Cell Coverage / WiFi: We had good Verizon here without boosting, AT&T was more spotty, some coverage but not very reliable.

Price Paid: Free

Date of visit: June 2015

Other: This is a truly beautiful spot, but it did have two big downsides.  The mosquitoes were monumental. We were literally eaten alive and were not able to spend any significant outside because of that. This is also a very busy spot, it is well known to those looking for free spots, also cyclists and hikers. At one point this felt like a busy state campground on the 4th of July. If you want solitude you may have to compromise on the view and move up the road.

Would we come here again? Yes.
