Campground Review: Campland on the Bay, San Diego, California
Why we chose here: We normally stay in Mission Bay RV Park when in San Diego, but couldn't get a space over the new year holiday there so had to move to Campland next door.
Location: The park is close to the surfy/student neighborhood of Pacific Beach, a few miles from the ocean.
Sites: They have a wide variety of sites. A lot of them are very close together. We could only get a dry spot, which is essentially the parking lot near the beach/marina. These actually have great views, but the people who parked around us did use generators, which is a big downside of the dry area.
Facilities: We didn't really try them out at all. They have a pool, a snackbar, bar, store, a beach, showers and laundry. The problem with such a well equipped park is that it attracts a lot of families. This place had kids EVERYWHERE, as well as pretty noisy adults. It's a party place and over the holiday weekend it was really busy so we spent as much time away from the park as we could.
Groceries: Lots of choices nearby. PB has Trader Joe's and Sprouts.
Cell coverage / WiFi: We had good coverage with Verizon. We didn't try the Wifi
Price paid: $61 nightly rate for a dry site
Date of visit: Jan 2017
Would we visit again? No, we would choose Mission Bay over here. The noise and atmosphere just felt "lower rent" than at Mission Bay. Lot's of day drinking, noisy kids and adults. Just not our kind of place at all.
