Bye Bye America! Hello Europe!
Our plans for 2017 began to take shape last year, with the idea of a family vacation in Europe. It seemed so odd to be thinking 9 months in advance, but now we are just a few days away. And we are ready! After a wet summer in Colorado and a wet winter in Southern California we are experiencing a bit of trailer fever. We can't wait to get out there and do something new for a while.
We are looking forward to the challenge of finding new foods to cook and unfamiliar city streets to navigate. We'll get to try out our pathetic Spanish skills, embarrass ourselves with our limited Italian and non-existent Portuguese. We have a few months to muster up a thank you in Bulgarian - that will probably be our limit. Our first week will be in the UK - so at least that's a soft landing, although Iain will have to try and understand my hometown accent, Brummie.
We have been spending our last few days getting the trailer ready for storage. We chose covered storage this time because we don't know exactly when we'll be back and we didn't want the truck and trailer baking in months of summer sun. I had to take a work trip to Florida, so Iain has done almost all the prep work of cleaning and making sure everything is in good order before the trailer is stored.
We've got our travel insurance sorted, almost all of our accommodation and flights between cities are booked. We have never been this planful before. But while we have almost every night taken care of until June 30th, after that we just don't know what's next. Maybe we'll stay longer in Europe, maybe we'll go to Mexico for the second half of the year, maybe we'll fall in love with a city and never want to leave.
Who knows but for now it's time to pack our bags, jump on a flight and fire up Duolingo. Ciao, Até logo, Hasta luego, or as we say in Brummie... Tara-a-bit.
