Campground Review: Casini Ranch, Russian River, CA

Why we chose here? We wanted to spend some time in the Russian River area and also had some family coming to stay. We needed to be near a decent town so they could take advantage of the accommodations. There are limited public grounds in the area and from the reveiws this sounded like the best private campground.

Location: The park is between the beautiful Sonoma coast and the Russian River. It's a great location if you want to explore both. If you are not interested in the coast then maybe a campground on the other side of Guerneville would make access to the majority of wineries and Healdsburg easier. We took day trips to Bodega Bay, Sebastopol, Healdsburg and the Dry Creek Valley from here. It's a short (windy) drive to Guerneville which has some good eating options.

Sites: They have a whole range of sites, we moved because we couldn't secure a single spot through the weekend. There are some good spots near the water, but the first spot we had was really pretty disappointing.  Just dirt and huge weeds and nettles. You are very close to neighbors here.

Facilities: The beach is the best part of this campground, you can rent kayaks and SUPs. Even at the weekend it was not so crowded as to be a pain. They have warm clean showers, and a well stocked general store.

Groceries: There is a Safeway in Guerneville. There is a Whole Foods in Sebastopol.

Reservations: Yes

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Cell coverage was poor, and the WiFi was slow.  You can pay to get improved WiFi; we didn't try that.

Price Paid: $58 & $60 (we had to move sites hence 2 different fees). E-W-S

Date of visit: July 2014

Other:  We did not love this place. It was busy, you are very close to other people, lots of noisy families, generally just not our kind of place. The staff were friendly enough and the facilities good, but the campsites were just not our idea of fun.

Would we come here again? No. It's tough because I think the Russian River has very poor options for RV camping. Honestly I like this area but think I would rather come to a hotel or rent a vacation cottage.
