Campground Review: LaPine State Park, LaPine, OR

Why we chose here? We had a reservation in Bend and needed a place to stop for a few days before we got there. LaPine seemed a convenient place to rest our head for a few days.

Location: This state park is quite lovely. Nice trails and the Deschutes River runs right through the park. You could use this as a base to visit Bend although it is a bit of a drive. It is also near to the popular Sun River recreation area, Cascade Scenic Byway and the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

Sites: Good sized sites, with hookups.  Picnic table and firerings.

Facilities: We didn't use them but the showers looked clean and modern. There is a dump station on site and recycling facilities.

Groceries: There is a Ray's in the town, which had a decent selection of food. Seeing fresh food after the desert that is the Crater Lake area was very refreshing.  Trader Joes and Whole Foods in Bend.

Reservations: Yes, recommended for summer weekends.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Coverage was limited in the park, but good coverage in LaPine itself.

Price Paid: $24 E-W

Date of visit: August 2014

Would we come here again? Yes. Great little park, friendly hosts and lots to do in the area.
