Campground Review: South Llano River State Park, Junction, TX

Why we chose here?  We were looking for a stop off point between Davis Mountains and Austin.  This park has good reviews for spacious sites and a nice natural setting. It is part of the state park system

Location: The river is quite pretty and a lot of people float down it during the warmer weather. You can rent tubes from the campground office. There are a few hiking trails and lots of deer, turkeys, birds and butterflies to see. Junction is a small town with not a great deal going on.  We managed to do some chores there (e.g., laundry).

Sites: We got a nice large site with lots of privacy.  All sites have picnic tables and fires, most have shelters, ours didn't because we had lots of trees.  All sites have electrical and water hook ups.

Facilities: Warm showers and restrooms.  Dump station on site.

Groceries: Nothing around here.  Bring your groceries with you.

Reservations: Yes, the park is busy during the weekend at this time of year. We couldn't get in for Friday, and had to wait for Saturday for a site to open up.  Empty during the week.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Cell coverage good for Verizon and AT&T.

Price Paid: $20 (Bought Texas State Park Pass to avoid daily entrance fees) E-W

Date of visit: Oct 2014

Other:  Like all Texas state parks, drinking alcohol outside is against the rules.  I hate this Nanny approach, as I like a beer sitting by the fire.  We didn't see the rule enforced, but I don't like having to hide my drink like a naughty schoolchild.

Would we come here again? Yes.  Great stop if we were passing through the area again.
