Campground Review: Boondocking: Indian Breads Recreation Area

Boondocking: Indian Breads Recreation Area

Why we chose here? We wanted a place not too far off our route to San Diego to have a couple of days to catch up after our trek across Texas, and since Arizona is so great for boondocking, we decided to give this a go. We read about this placeon our friends Blog Watsons Wander

Location: This is pretty remote, about 7 miles off the I-10 freeway from El Paso to Tucson.  The town of Bowie is about 7 miles away and there is not a whole lot there. It's quite scenic and very peaceful.  Top reach it we exited Interstate 10 at Bowie. Head south on Apache Pass road from Bowie for just under 4 miles turn right on South Happy Camp Road and travel along the unpaved road for about 3 miles.

Sites: We saw 4 or 5 spots that were able to accommodate RV's, more for tents or small camper vans

Facilities: Pit toilets at the picnic area.

Groceries: Nothing close to here, bring your groceries with you.

Reservations: No

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Full coverage for AT&T and Verizon

Price Paid: Free

Date of visit: Nov 2014

Other: We saw a few other campers in the area during our 4 nights here. The ranger told us that this was a popular spot for locals to come shooting at the weekend.  We didn't see anything, but we got the impression from him that others had experienced some issues with noisy neighbors, he told us to call if we had any concerns. We camped at a spot near the picnic area.  Note there is a narrow gate justbefore the picnic area. Large rigs may struggle here.

Would we come here again? Yes, I would drive out of the area for hiking, as there are no trails here and the grass is not pleasant to hike through.
