Campground Review: White Tank Regional Park, Nr Surprise, AZ

Why we chose here? Even though we had really decided we wanted to move on from the Phoenix area, I had to catch a work flight and needed to be near an airport, so we decided tos tay for another 10 days in the Phoenix area.  We headed out to the west side to have a change of scene.

Location: The park is very scenic, wonderful cacti, rock formations and great hiking trails.   Surprise is nearby with groceries and other conveniences. We learned that in the Phoenix metro area nothing is close to anything else. One interesting thing in this park is that you are overlooking the Phonix metro area, I found the city lights to be quite pretty at night.

Sites: The sites at the back of the park have good room.  Some of the others are really quite close together.   Each site has a barbecue, a picnic table and a firepit. There are parking areas and large seating areas.  All sites have water and electric.

Facilities: They have only one shower for men and one for women for the whole park, which makes no sense. There were often lines. There is a dump station on site.
Groceries: Trader Joes and Sprouts can be found in Surprise about 30 minutes away.

Reservations: Yes, this is a busy park especially at weekends.  It was full most of the time we were there.   We found that the park was full with a lot of people in town for Spring Training, there were also more weekenders here that in other Phoenix parks, which tend to have more snowbirds in.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Both Verizon and AT&T in the park.  The towers seemed to be not too overloaded and we got good speed too.

Price Paid: $30 for Water & Electric

Date of visit: March 2015

Other: Just like at McDowell the other Maricopa Park we stayed at, he hosts at this park were extremely unfriendly. The first day we got there one of the hosts had a semi truck which had the engine running for an hour. Seriously obnoxious!

Would we come here again? Probably not. If we needed to be near Phoenix again we would probably choose Lost Dutchman.  The park was pretty and by no means an unpleasant place to be, but we preferred the East side of the city.

  1. Glad you enjoyed it! We will definitely stay at Lost Dutchmen next time as well...if we visit Phoenix again.
