Hola from Mexico! Another Benefit of our Nomadic Life.

Our last post was about how we loved having the flexibility to change our plans at the last minute. Well did our plans change big style this week.

I am writing this from Mexico,  a country we have visited often.  In fact we were thinking of spending an extended period of time here next year but it wasn't in our 2015 plans. But fate had other ideas.

Wanderlust runs in my family and my sister started out on what was to be a 6 month plus journey through Mexico and Central America at the end of July with her close friend. She began feeling unwell a week or two ago, to cut a long story short she was admitted to hospital last Monday night and had to have surgery on Wednesday. Fortunately because we lead a nomadic life, we can be flexible so within 28 hours of finding out about the surgery, we had our trailer in storage and were on a flight to Puebla, Mexico.

It's now 2 weeks later and it's been rough. Watching someone you love be in so much pain and discomfort is literally gut wrenching. The language barrier has been difficult to deal with and has added to the stress. On the plus side we were in a private hospital and the care has been very good. Because there are 3 of us here, we can be at the hospital 24\7 and I can't say enough about the caring Mexican people.

She was discharged a few days ago and we are back in the small house that we have rented for us to stay in, so she can recuperate before flying back to the UK. The family who own the house have been wonderful, picking her up from the hospital to avoid a bumpy cab ride, and giving us everything we need to keep her comfortable.

This is home for probably the next 4 or 5 weeks. The town of Puebla seems lovely from what we have seen so far. Now we are not at the hospital 24/7 we will be able to get out and see more of it. So watch out for our next few posts they will have a much more Latin feel.

  3. Oh what a Rough Time!! I'm so glad you were able to fly down to your sister, but I can only imagine how tough it's been emotionally. Sure hope she makes a full and easy recovery, and that you're able to share some relax time before she goes back. Best of wishes to her!

    1. Thanks Nina, we are 3 weeks in now and things are getting better all the time. We will spend another month here, making sure she is fully fit to fly and that will give us a chance to explore too.
