Campground Review: Twin Lakes Boondocking, CO

Why we chose here: The scenery around this area is stunning and the opportunity to score a prime boondocking spot was an opportunity we couldn't pass up.

Location: This is a very beautiful spot. You are surrounded by fourteeners all around, included Colorado's highest point Mt Elbert. There are some great hikes around. And the Twin Lakes themselves are beautiful. In our spot we had a 280 degree view that was stunning. You are high here, and with elevation comes cool weather. Even in August we found it quite chilly here and in nearby Leadville, the highest city in the US.

Sites: There are a variety of spots here, depending on your rig will depend which ones you can access. There are a couple of killer view spots where the map pin is. The last part of dirt road that you need to go on to access them is a little rough, but we navigated it in our 27foot trailer. But you need to take care.  The view was worth it though.

Facilities: Nothing - you are out in nature

Groceries: There is a mediocre Safeway in nearby Leadville. There's a lack of good grocery options in the area so bring what you can from a decent store.

Reservations: No

Cell coverage / WiFi: Yes good coverage from Verizon and AT&T

Price paid: $0

Date of visit: August 2016

Would we visit again? Yes. A gorgeous spot that's hard to beat. Especially if you can get one of the prime spots.
