Campground Review: Boyd Lake State Park, Loveland, CO

Why we chose here: We wanted to explore some of the breweries in nearby Fort Collins, as well as have some countertops fabricated with a nearby supplier.  This seemed like a good central location for us to base ourselves for a short while

General: This is a Colorado state park. One thing you should know about camping at CO state parks is that you have to pay a daily entrance fee to the park in addition to the camping fee. We'll add Colorado to Washington, Montana and Texas; the list of state park systems we have visited who love to sting you with extra fees. Anyway it's $7 or $8 a day, depending on the park, or $70 for an annual pass. Given our plans to stay in Colorado for a few months we bought the pass to save the fees.

Location: This is not the most scenic spot, but it's not terrible either.  Loveland is an ok town, but you are only half an hour's drive from lovely Fort Collins, which we found to be a charming city. There is an extensive cycle path system which runs right through the park.

Sites: The sites are all pull through and have spacious sitting areas. You are all stacked up in a line, but the site separation is ok. At the weekend when the park was full it felt very crowded and was pretty noisy but it emptied out during the weekend.  There are picnic tables and fire rings at every site

Facilities: Restrooms, showers, laundry, children's playground and a dump station.

Groceries: There is a Sprouts in Loveland close tot he campground. Fort Collins had Trader Joes and Whole Foods.

Reservations: Yes; essential on a summer weekend. During the week not needed.

Cell coverage / WiFi: Yes good coverage from Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile

Price paid: $24 Electric - Plus $10 Online Reservation Fee - Plus $70 Annual Pass to avoid $7 daily fee

Date of visit: August 2016

Would we come here again? I think so. It's not the nicest park and was crowded and noisy at the weekend, but there are very few options around here. I would love to be closer to Fort Collins.
