Why we chose here? After a few nights at Mesa Verde we wanted to explore a littlevmore of the area and in particular the town of Durango. We decided to try truly boondocking on public lands for the first time. We found this spot on Watsons Wander blog
Location: (~ 37.346139, -108.200513) This is a beautiful area, with lovely views. We were inundated by free-roaming cattle. They were curious about us but didn't bother us. It's quite a drive to Durango from here, about 30 minutes. The town of Mancos is nearby and has a decent coffee shop and a small natural foods store. Travel west out of Mancos on Hwy 160 for about 7 miles. As the road bends to the left you will see a small forest road (#316) turn up and head over the unpaved road for about a mile. As you reach a small property on the left,turn right for a few hundred yards. We stayed on the right in a small clearing overlooking the highway.
Sites: There are a few previously used spots in this area where people have had fire rings before.

Groceries: Small Zuma Natural Foods in Mancos, and a Safeway/Vons in Durango

Other: This is true peace and quiet. We only saw one other person checking out this area when we were here. We left early because a big storm was coming in and we wanted to head south out of it, but we could have easily stayed here for longer.
