Campground Review: Elephant Butte Lake State Park

Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
Our view at Elephant Butte
Why we chose here?  After the balloon fiesta we wanted to head south, making our way to Texas.  This was a short drive from Albuquerque and had good online reviews. We stayed in the southern campground, rather than the northern one (Monticello).  Normally we would have picked Monticello as it is more remote and supposedly more scenic, but we were traveling with visiting family who stayed in a hotel nearby so chose the busier southern campground

Location: The nearest town is Truth or Consequences. It's cute with a couple of nice cafes and stores. The main attraction here is hot springs.

Sites: 173 sites, lots with water and electric hookups.

Facilities: Dump station on site.  Lake for boating and swimming, hiking trails.

Groceries: Walmart and small little store in town (Bullocks) - better to bring your own food in.

Reservations: Yes. We didn't need them.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Yes. coverage in the southern campground. Marginal wi-fi.

Price Paid: $14 E-W

Date of visit: Oct 2014

Would we come here again? Yes,we would like to stay at the Monticello campground next time.
