Campground Review: Leasburg Dam State Park, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Why we chose here?  We wanted to visit this area specifically for White Sands National Monument and the town of Mesilla. We had read some good reviews of the park.

Location: The park is not far from the freeway and there is some train noise but nothing significant. The park is in a pretty location with beautiful sunsets. There is limited hiking in the park and the local town is very small. Most places we went to were some drive away.

Sites: The sites were spacious and well laid out. There was a great adobe shelter, picnic table and firepit.

Facilities: Dump station on site.  We didn't use the showers or restrooms.
Groceries: Las Cruces is nearest main shopping.  No Whole Foods or Trader Joes, but we did find a natural foods store, Mountain View Co-op.  There is also a Natural Grocers in Las Cruces

Reservations: One loop is reservable the other is FCFS. We didn't need reservations but the park was almost full.

Cell Coverage / WiFi: Cell coverage in the park was good.  WiFi was marginal.

Price Paid: $14 E-W

Date of visit: Oct 2014

Would we come here again? Yes, we liked the town of Las Cruces and would like to come back and hike in the Organ Mountains. This is a good place to be based for exploring the area.
