Campground Review: El Chorro Regional Park, San Luis Obispo, California

Why we chose here: After 6 months in storage in Bakersfield, we decided to get the trailer to somewhere more scenic to get our home on wheels up and running again. We know this area well and love the Central Califronia Coast, usually stoping nearer the ocean in Morro Bay or Pismo Beach. But as we needed to be near stores and other services we decided to stay nearer to SLO. Lopez Lake where we stayed last time, is still quite a trek from civilization and also has no cell signal so this seemed a much better choice. This is a county park and so doesn't get quite as booked up as the state parks do.
Location: About 7 miles from Morro Bay and the same from San Luis Obispo. Paso Robles and SLO wine country are close by. SLO is a charming town filled with fun stores, bars and restaurants. This is a fantastic base for exploring everything the California Central Coast has to offer.

Sites:  Unusually the hook up spots here are nicer than the dry ones. The dry loop is closest to the road and has no trees. The two full hook up loops are wooded and further from highway 1. Our site (Ronaldo 12) was huge, in fact we had some friends in a Class B+ come and join us in our spot. They allow a second rig for $13.

Facilities: There are showers and restrooms - we didn't try as we had full hook-ups. There are hiking trails from the park, a children's play area and a golf course right next to the campground

Groceries: Whole foods, Trade Joe's are nearby. The farmers market on a Thursday evening is fantastic if a bit busy in the summer months.

Reservations: Yes. They have a generous (if not very level) overflow area if you are stuck without a spot.

Cell coverage / WiFi: Yes good coverage from Verizon and AT&T.

Price paid: $40 - Full hook ups (+$9 reservation fee)

Date of visit: July 2016

Would we come here again? Yes. Perfect location, roomy sites and I forgot to mention very friendly staff.
