General: This Corps of Engineers campground is awesome. The sites are huge and spaced well apart, the views are endless and it is First Come First Served. My favorite type of campground because as long as you plan your arrival time well you are able to get in and won't get kicked out over the weekend. The airport is close-by but most are small private aircraft and glider flights, so really not much noise at all.
Location: The location of the park is excellent. It's just a few miles from the lovely mountain town of Truckee. We cycled from the park to a local brewery on the eastside of town. You are also a short drive from fantastic hiking either towards Lake Tahoe or in the other direction at Donner. Lake Tahoe is an outdoor recreation paradise, and while not actually on the lake the north shore is only a short drive away.
Sites: There are a mix of pull-throughs and back ins here. All are large and well spaced. We chose a great pull-through site around the edge of the park overlooking the meadow towards the lake and we felt like we had scored the largest backyard in the world. There are picnic tables and fire rings and a large sitting area and just enough trees to provide shade and hammock hanging, but still open enough for great solar power generation.
Facilities: There are restrooms, no showers or dump station. There is a small lake on the property. Not swimmable, but you can fish or kayak on it.
Groceries: Truckee has Safeway.
Reservations: No. All sites are FCFS
Cell coverage / WiFi: Yes good coverage from Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.
Price paid: $20 Dry site

Would we come here again? Yes, in fact is there wasn't a 14 day stay limit, we might just move in forever.
