Campground Review: Boulder County Fairgrounds, Longmont, CO

Why we chose here: Still quite a few breweries to catch up with in the area. There are several good ones here in Longmont to visit, so we decided to stay here for a few days in a central location. 

General: This is a county fairgrounds and the camping is a little snug to say the least. It has a unique billing system which I have never seen before.  All the sites cost the same hook up or no hookup, you then pay extra if you use the hook up. Additional $5 for water and $5 for electric. so we decided to go for the largest pull through sites on the way in, but not connect to the electric and water. So we got the benefit of the large site for the price of the small dry sites. 

Location: This is urban camping. You are in a county fairgrounds so your expectations shouldn't be high. Close to Left Hand Brewing and Oskar Blues - a big plus. Also a cycle way comes very clsoe to the park which you can take to get all around the area. There is a Human Society right by the park, and Iain, who is allergic to cats definitely showed some allergy symptoms.  On the plus side we saw doggies being walked all day past the trailer.  Also there was a lot of horses  being brought to the grounds, and I think that contributed to a high level of flies in the area. 

Sites: The pull through sites are pretty large, but you are tight against your neighbor.  We were lucky to get site 1 with neighbors only on one side. There are no picnic tables or sitting areas to speak of. Just a parking spot. 

Facilities: Restrooms, showers - neither of which we used and the prettiest dump station we have ever seen! 

Groceries: There is a Sprouts close to the campground. Whole Foods has built a brand new store which looks ready to go, but for some reason is not opening until December 2016.

Reservations: Yes but we didn't need them. There are lots of spots here, I find it hard to believe you couldn't just show up.

Cell coverage / WiFi: Yes good coverage from Verizon. AT&T and T-Mobile

Price paid: $15 for the site. If you hook up to water it's an additional $5 and electric is also $5 

Date of visit: Sept 2016

Would we visit again? Probably not. The proximity to the breweries was great, but the campground is a bit grungy and this isn't an area we would rush back to spend more time in.
