Killer location! This is site #29 |
Why we chose here? We had wanted to stay at this park for a while, but never were buttoned up enough to get a reservation. We happened upon a cancellation in the Airstream group we met at Santee Lakes over the holidays and so jumped at the oceanside spot.
Location: I am not sure it gets much better than this. The campground is graded on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Pretty much everyone has a view of the Pacific. You can walk to local restaurants, to the beach and to the Crystal Cove historic district. Then state park itself has backcountry trails and a paved trail along the bluffs.
Sites: There are 57 sites, half have water and electric. The sites are very large, with a lot of room at the back of the site for sipping a beverage and watching the sun go down over the ocean. There is a picnic table at every site, but no fires at this park
Facilities: There is a dump station on site, modern restrooms and showers.
Groceries: Trader Joes is less than a mile away. You are in a major metropolitan area so there is no shortage of good food options here.
Reservations: Yes, at weekends they are a must.
Cell Coverage / WiFi: Good AT&T and Verizon. There are actually towers at the park behind the visitor center.
Price Paid: Winter Rates: $55 for hookups, $35 for dry.
Date of visit: Jan 2015
Other: The length of rig allowed here is limited, and they seem quite strict about it. Check before you come.
Would we come here again? Absolutely definitely. I would go for dry camping to save some money next time. I would also like to come mid week so the park is less crowded.
